Peace and Prosperity were indications in the Jewish tradition of God’s blessing.  Some televangelists try to preach the Gospel in that same light.  It really conflicts with Jesus’ overall lifestyle – a man who lived faithfully to God’s word, proclaimed and lived a message of love, healed others hurts and yet experienced rejection, suffering and death by execution.

America is viewed by many as blessed by God – and indeed we are.  But the peace and prosperity are not automatic benefits.  God’s blessing comes with responsibility.  As Jesus gave of his life with self-sacrificing love, so too, we are called to give of our life.  That is our ultimate freedom – to choose to live selflessly or selfishly.

This weekend we celebrate our nation’s freedom.  It is built upon generations of self-sacrificing men and women.  As we celebrate freedom and the Lord’s Day let us remember our call to choose to give of ourselves – our time and talent and resources so that our faith and country may continue to be able to celebrate freedom in future generations.

                                Fr. Mike

RCIA Registration
The RCIA program is designed to help nurture and educate through spiritual guidance of instructors and the community of believers in the understanding of what Roman Catholicism is. Our new program for the fall begins Sept. 3 at 7:00 PM. We follow the school calendar, so when school is out for vacation we are too. Anyone interested in seeking information or to register are asked to call the parish office now to set up a time to talk with Carol Patterson before fall classes begin. You may call or e-mail Carol at 273-1240 or campatte@cox-internet.com

Food Pantry Items Needed

The  food pantry is in desperate need of the following items:  peanut butter, jelly, crackers, flour, tomato sauce, spaghetti, dry cereal, rice and beans.  Please drop any donated items in the plastic tub in front of the bulletin board located in the Narthex.

Concerned about growing old?  Looking for the fountain of youth in a bottle?  Sally Carroll and Jenny Jones have a solution!
Sally & Jenny are in need of people interested in spending a few hours a month in leading our youth in their spiritual journey through our youth ministry studies. Statistics have shown that spending time with those younger than yourself can help you maintain and/ or re-gain your youthful glow and energy along with providing other possible health benefits. (That’s our story & we’re sticking to it) Sounds like a win/win proposition!
If you are interested in absorbing youthful energy and would like to do so in a relaxed, creative and faith-filled environment, this ministry could be for you. We are in need of parishioners to fill a variety of positions including teachers, mentors, snack coordinator and audio/visual operators. Classes meet twice a month for two hours each.

Come join us and feel young again!

Fall Youth Ministry Classes

Please register your children for Religious Education classes this fall if you haven’t already done so. Please note that FIRST GRADE, SECOND GRADE AND FOURTH GRADE ARE NOW FULL ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT. Space will be limited as we evenly distribute the Catholic Kids between Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings. Registration cards are available in the Narthex at the table marked “Registration”.

Sign Language Interpreter Needed
Do you know sign language? If so, your help is needed. This fall we will have a student in our religious education classes that is deaf and will need someone to help interpret the lessons. If you can help and would be available on Wednesday evenings twice a month, please call the parish office.

Update on IMPACT Mission Trip

Three adult chaperones and seven IMPACT preteens made it back to Arkansas last Saturday in one piece. We spent a week traveling to Colorado to join with nine other church groups from five different states to serve in the Ft. Collins/Loveland area. We served in a retirement home each day visiting and playing games with the residents as well as doing odd jobs that they needed completed. Some of the other groups worked at a horse ranch, a Boys and Girls club, cleaned up a yard, planted seedlings at a Nature center, or helped pack up supplies for the Red Cross. It was a great week of serving and making new friends from all over the country. You can view some of the pictures from our trip on the board set up in the Narthex.

Peter’s Pence Collection – July 12 & 13

The second collection next weekend is for the works of the Holy Father. Christ our Hope is the theme for this year’s Peter’s Pence Collection. Your generosity allows the Holy Father to bring hope – through timely and effective emergency assistance – to our suffering brothers and sisters throughout the world. In solidarity with the Holy Father, we Catholics participate in works of goodness that distinguish us as followers of the Gospel. Please pray for the Holy Father, and please give generously. For more information on the Peter’s Pence Collection, visit www.usccb.org/ppc.
